St. John’s Eve Bonfire – Saturday, June 27th!

We are organizing bonfire event for the evening of Saturday, June 27th.

There is a strong Catholic folk tradition of communal bonfires around the Nativity of St. John the Baptist, which falls on August 24. Traditionally, these fires were burned on St. John's Eve, June 23rd, which this year falls on a Tuesday. While not on the traditional day itself for practical reasons, the following Saturday still falls within the octave of the feast as observed prior to 1955.

St. John the Baptist (Saint-Jean-Baptiste) is the patron saint of Quebec, too. On his feast day, a high mass is held.
